About Us

Western Boys High School in Benin City is a prestigious institution with a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1947. The school was established with the singular purpose of providing quality education to young men in the Old Bendel State, Nigeria, and it has consistently upheld this mission over the years.

The school's early years were marked by rapid growth and development. From its humble beginnings as Airewele High School, and now Western Boys High School has evolved into a highly respected educational institution, known for its academic excellence and high moral standards.

The school’s motto “disce si sapis" meaning “Learn if you are wise” has come to be the bedrock of belief which has propelled the school for decades.

Over the years, the school has produced numerous prominent alumni who have gone on to make significant contributions to their communities and the nation as a whole. The school's curriculum has also evolved to meet the changing needs of the modern world, with a strong emphasis on science, technology, and the arts.

In addition to its academic offerings, Western Boys High School is also known for its vibrant extracurricular activities, including sports, music, and drama. These activities serve to further enrich the educational experience of the students and promote a well-rounded approach to learning.

Today, Western Boys High School continues to maintain its reputation as a leading educational institution in Benin City, Edo state with a commitment to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for young men to thrive and excel.

Our Alumni Network

Collaboratively, we strive to rebuild our alma mater to create a legacy that extends far beyond our time. This commitment involves enhancing the school’s facilities, supporting educational programs, and providing guidance and assistance with development to current students. We actively engage in community-building efforts and use our diverse professional networks to bring in resources and expertise. By doing so, we aim to improve the school’s physical infrastructure and enrich students’ academic and extracurricular experiences.

Our network serves as a bridge between generations, ensuring the values and traditions of our school are preserved and passed on. We connect alumni with students through mentorship programs, fostering a sense of community and continuity. Our efforts are rooted in the belief that by investing in our school, we’re investing in the future leaders of our community and the world.

Our Values

We value working in unison to host several events where members can meet up with each other, network, and enjoy catching up and spending time with fellow graduates. Some of these events are in the form of class reunions, fundraisers, and planned retreats.

We’re also committed to raising funds to support current students through awards, sporting equipment, and upgraded school infrastructure. Our group believes we’re stronger together, and with you onboard, we know we’ll be an even more formidable bunch.

Our Goals

We aim to highlight the successes of Western Boys High School graduates, plan and host fundraising events, and provide funding for several school initiatives, including new furniture, solar lights, soccer team kits, and sporting equipment.

We’re proud to offer financial assistance to needy students and to have established an endowment fund and a financial award for athletics performance. As a group, we’re resolute in our goal of giving back to create a stable, welcoming, and well-equipped learning environment for all.
